January is my birth month, so the perfect present for me is giving something to YOU, my faithful newsletter readers.

Every month this year, I will feature a different author I want to introduce. Scroll down to read about this month’s featured AOTM (Author of the Month). The first FIVE responders to this email will be placed in a drawing for a free book!

Author of the Month:
Terri Wangard

Meet Terri Wangard, whose first Girl Scout badge was the Writer. She was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and still lives in Wisconsin, but has also lived in Michigan, California, and Utah.

Holder of a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in library science, she writes historicals. Five books are set in World War II, and her research included going for a ride in a B-17 Flying Fortress bomber. Her most recent book, Seashells in My Pocket, is set in Brazil, book one of the series Unsung Stories of World War II. Book two, No Leaves in Autumn, is set in Iceland and will release in March. As you may have guessed, she favors unusual settings.

German-Brazilian Isabel Neumann delights in creating seashell art, but it’s her mathematical ability that lands her a job at the American air base in Natal, northern Brazil during World War II. She doesn’t need a calculator to determine the correct weights and balances for the Air Transport Command’s cargo planes.

Daniel Lambert, an American transport pilot based at Natal, endures the taunts of combat pilots that he is “allergic to combat.” His flying skills win him respect, however, and his friendship with Isabel deepens, even as a new source of trouble looms.

Isabel is caught in the crosshairs of a German saboteur who is obsessed with her. He insists that she belongs with him, and demands that she help him sabotage the Allied base. Her growing relationship with Daniel angers the Nazi, who will do anything to get rid of him. What will happen to Isabel if the madman captures her?

Did you pick up on the fact that January is my birthday month? I share a birthday with President Millard Fillmore (notable for absolutely nothing happening during his presidency, the way it should be) and my favorite ophthalmologist, the US Senator from Kentucky, Dr. Rand Paul. I’m sure there are more, but I’m most proud of those two.

PS Mary Kay Ash said a woman who’d tell her age would tell anything, so I won’t tell you how old I’m turning. However, I will say I’m younger than Fillmore and older than Paul. Hahaha! Oh, wait. So, not very much older than Senator Paul . . .
